Drawn by His Grace By Chaplain Rae Borders
/I saw her face at the door of the pod. She was asking the officer if she could meet with me privately. She introduced herself and explained that this was her seventh time at the Juvenile Justice Center. I asked her age, thinking she was 16. But she was 13. I was astonished.
She always cried for days when she came back to the JJC. But this time was different. She was tired of making excuses. She said she’d made a vow to God to grow up. She wanted to follow the things she had learned about Him when she was younger.
Then I shared my testimony. This young lady could identify with my own journey of pain. In these precious moments, it was like a dam broke and the tears were flowing freely. God graciously opened the door of her heart. I told her of Jesus who had generously given Himself for sinners like us. After several moments, I asked her what she was thinking, but she only looked down and cried silently. I gave her a Bible provided by True Freedom with some scriptures marked in it to read.
The next time we met, she told me she had been reading her Bible every day. She was eager to share a passage she had found. This was not among the scriptures I’d suggested she read. God showed her this one. Galatians 1, verse 3: “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sin, to deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.” Please continue to pray for this young soul that God would continue to draw her to Christ.
