Women’s Prison Ministry

When people think about prison, typically what comes to mind are overcrowded facilities, high walls with barbed wire. They also typically picture an all-male population, with most inmates covered in tattoos. But women go to prison as well. In fact, they are the fast growing demographic in prisons.

The number of women in prison is very small in proportion to the overall prison population. Of the 2.5 million people incarcerated in U.S. prisons and jails, approximately 105,000 are women — an astonishing 757 percent increase from 1977 to 2005.

Because the female prison population is growing so rapidly, True Freedom Ministries has appointed Rae Borders, Director of Women’s Ministries, in order to meet the spiritual needs of the rapidly expanding mission field.
